Honour & Awards
1. Havildar Hangpan Dada honored with Ashok Chakra posthumously
- The President of India Pranab Mukherjee has approved 398 Gallantry and other defense awards to personnel of Indian armed forces.
- These awards include Ashok Chakra (1), Kirit Chakras (2), Shaurya Chakras (12), 3 Bar 50 Sena Medal, Sena Medal (91), Vayusena medals ( 4) and Nao Sena medal (2).
- Ashok Chakra (highest peace time gallantry award) to Rashtriya Rifles martyr Havildar Hangpan Dada (from Arunachal) for sacrificing his life for the nation, his wife Changsen received the award during the 68th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.
- Dada killed four terrorists at the height of 13,000 feet in the harsh and icy Himalayan range of North Kashmir before laying down his life on 26th May, 2016.
2. Padma awards 2017
- President Pranab Mukherjee has announced the names of recipients (89 persons) of the year 2017 Padma awards, Padma Vibhushan (7), Padma Bhushan (7), and Padma Shri (75).
- Out of these selected 89 persons, women (19), Foreigners, NRIs, PIOs (5) while 6 are posthumous awardees.
- The country’s highest civilian awards Padma Awards has given in various disciplines-art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
Padma Vibhushan (Second-highest civilian award): awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.

Padma Shri (fourth highest civilian award): in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.
- Padma Awards were instituted in 1954 to be awarded to citizens of India in recognition of their distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the Arts, Education, Industry, Literature, Science, Sports, Medicine, Social Service and Public Affairs.
