Today, we are sharing a static topic about Banks, Headquarters & their Tagline which is commonly asked in the exam.
Bank is a financial establishment that uses money deposited by customers for investment, pays it out when required, makes loans at interest, and exchanges currency. Banks are regulated by the national government or central bank.

Major banks headquarters

  • Mumbai – Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
  • Mumbai – State Bank of India
  • Mumbai – Union Bank of India
  • New Delhi – Bhartiya Mahila Bank (BMB)
  • New Delhi – Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC)
  • New Delhi – Punjab National Bank (PNB)
  • Patiala – State Bank of Patiala
  • Pune – Bank of Maharashtra
  • Thiruvananthapuram – State Bank of Travancore
  • Vadodara, Gujarat – Bank of Baroda

An Effortless approach to remember the Headquarters of Banks in India

1. All the banks which have ‘Bank of India‘ at the end of their name have their headquarters in Mumbai. For example:
  • Bank of India — Mumbai
  • Central Bank of India— Mumbai
  • Industrial Development Bank of India— Mumbai
  • State Bank of India—Mumbai
  • Union Bank of India—Mumbai
  • Reserve Bank of India—Mumbai
  • Securities and Exchange Bank of India—Mumbai
  • Dena Bank—Mumbai (It is the only bank which does not contain bank of India)
Note :- United Bank of India is the only exception which does not have its headquarter in Mumbai.
2. Banks which have ‘Indian’ in starting, have their headquarters in Chennai. For example:
  • Indian Bank – Chennai
  • Indian Overseas Bank – Chennai
3. Banks which start with ‘U‘ have their headquarters in Kolkata. For example:
  • UCO Bank – Kolkata
  • United Bank of India – Kolkata
Note: Union Bank of India which starts with u has it's headquarter in Mumbai and Allahabad Bank whose headquarter is also Kolkata.
4. Banks which have South Indian names have their headquarters in Bangalore. 
  • Canara Bank – Bangalore. 
  • Vijaya Bank – Bangalore.
5. List of Banks with headquarters in their own city. For example:
  • State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur - Jaipur
  • State Bank of Hyderabad - Hyderabad
  • State Bank of Mysore - Bengaluru
  • State Bank of Patiala - Patiala
  • State Bank of Travancore - Thiruvananthapuram
  • Bank of Baroda - Baroda
  • Bank of Maharashtra - Pune
  • Andhra Bank - Hyderabad
6. If the Bank name Starts with "Punjab" within their name have Head quarters in New Delhi. For example:
  • Punjab National Bank - New Delhi
  • Punjab & Sind Bank - New Delhi
