1. Lee Chong Wei clinches fourth All England Open Badminton Championships title
- Lee Chong Wei (34-year) of Malaysia has lifted the Men's Singles crown at the All England Open badminton championships.
- He defeated Shi Yuqi (China) in straight games 21-12, 21-10.
- It is his fifth Singles Title in seven finals in the prestigious championships.
- Earlier, the Chinese pair of Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong won the Mixed Doubles title by defeating the Malaysian duo of Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goah in the final 18-21, 21-19, 21-16.
Note:
- The All England Open Badminton Championships is the world's oldest badminton tournament, held annually in England.
2. SSP Chawrasia clinches second successive Indian Open title
- SSP Chawrasia has become only the second Indian golfer to successfully defend the Hero Indian Open title.
- He clinched a seven-stroke win at the redesigned DLF golf and country club in Gurgaon(Haryana).
- This was his sixth win on the Asian Tour and overall sixth international victory.
- Chawrasia is the third player to win back-to-back Indian Open and pocketed a winner's cheque of 291,660 US Dollars.
- The other two golfers who did so earlier are Jyoti Randhawa who won in 2006 and 2007 and Japan's Kenji Hosoishi who won in 1967 and 1968.
Note:
- The Indian Open, known as the Hero Indian Open due to sponsorship, is a golf tournament on the Asian Tour that is currently held at the Delhi Golf Club.
- It became a European Tour co-sanctioned event in 2015.
3. ICC appoint Sachin Tendulkar as official ambassador of women's World Cup 2017
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar as the UNICEF and Cricket for Good Ambassador for the ICC Women's World Cup 2017.
- The ICC Women's World Cup 2017 scheduled to start from 24th June 2017 at England and Wales.
- The 21-day tournament having 28 matches will be played at five different venues with the final at Lord's Cricket Ground, London.

4. ICICI Bank, SBI top bank frauds list: RBI
- ICICI Bank topped the list of banks that witnessed the most number of frauds during April to December period of 2016 with state-owned SBI taking the second spot.
- During the first nine months of the current fiscal, as many as 455 fraud cases, involving 1 lakh rupees and above, were detected in ICICI Bank, closely followed by SBI with 429, Standard Chartered with 244 and HDFC Bank with 237.
- The frauds involving Rs. 2,237 crore were reported in SBI, followed by Punjab National Bank with Rs. 2,250 crore rupees and Axis Bank with 1,998 crore rupees.

5. Malayalam filmmaker Diphan passes away
- Malayalam film director Diphan (47-year) passed away in a private hospital at Kochi.
- He is survived by his wife and two children.
- Diphan is known for his films namely Puthiya Mukham, Hero and SIM.

6. Women Safety app ‘Ammavin Aran’ launched by AIADMK
- The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) IT Wing has launched the women safety application 'Ammavin Aran' in Tamil Nadu.
- The app will give the user details about the nearest police station and hospital along with map details and phone number.
- The app carries an in-built call recorder and 'Tips' icon to provide life- saving information.
7. Arunachal Pradesh Launches Adarsh Gram Yojana for Rural Poor
- The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched a new scheme 'Adarsh Gram Yojana' to reach the poor people in rural areas of the state to serve them better.
- Under the scheme, 123 villages will be developed as “Model Villages” during the FY 17-18.
8. Government launches Mission Fingerling to achieve Blue Revolution
- The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare has launched Mission Fingerling to achieve the Blue Revolution by enabling holistic development and management of fisheries.
- The programme will enhance the fisheries production from 10.79 mmt (2014-15) to 15 mmt by 2020-21.
- Fish Fingerling production is the single most important critical input visualized to achieve fish production targets under the Blue Revolution.
National & International Appointment
9. Jaitley gets additional charge of Defence Ministry
- The union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has given the additional charge of the Defence Ministry after Manohar Parrikar resigned to take on the new role of Goa Chief Minister.
- Earlier, Parrikar submitted his resignation after BJP staked claim to form an alliance government in Goa.
- Jaitley was incharge of the ministry earlier from 26th May to 9th November in 2014.
10. Narendra Kumar takes over as Chairman Central Water Commission
- The Central Water Engineering Service (CWES) officer (1979 batch) Shri Narendra Kumar has been appointed as the new chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC).
- He succeeded GS Jha.
- Central Water Commission is a premier technical organization of India in the field of water resources.
Note:
- Narendra Kumar has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from IIT-Roorkee and M.Tech with structural engineering as a specialization from the IIT-Delhi.
